April 23, 2025 On March 12 and 13, trainees from across Manitoba gathered for a two-day HeritageFair, commemorating the abundant histories, Treaty stories, languages, and Traditional Understanding of their Very First Countries. This event provided a significant platform for young learners to engage with their past, show on their present, and form their future.

GMS collaboratively engages board and committee members, administrators, teachers, support staff, households, coaches, donors, volunteers, community groups and various partners in our trainees' education. It formally partners or partners with the Canadian Jesuits, St. Paul's High School, St. Mary's Academy, the Jesuit Assistance Network, and the NativityMiguel Coalition, the Manitoba Federation of Independent Schools and the Archdiocese of Winnipeg Catholic Schools.

Some will state, "What is wrong with our educational system?" The better question is, "why do we allow such really high levels of poverty to persist," when the analytical evidence is so definitely clear that there is a causal relationship between hardship and low educational results.

An example is 3 grade schools in south St. Vital. Hardship levels in the areas surrounding these three schools in the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) are on par with those in the inner city. Not remarkably, outcomes at these three schools are well below the average for the LRSD.

Even before they start, these children's preparedness for school is far behind the Divisional averages. The povertycomplex, multi-faceted poverty that consists of various kinds of injustice and triggers multiple kinds of damageis the issue. Spotlight on Ingenious Childcare Techniques in Winnipeg

In the lack of an effective anti-poverty strategy driven by the three levels of government, the Louis Riel School Division is working with neighbourhood companies and moms and dads to carry out an innovative community development (CD) strategy, what we have called a "entire neighborhood" method, targeted at reinforcing households and developing community.

The approach taken by the School Division has been to meet and listen to moms and dads and others who live in the community to attempt to determine what they believe is required to strengthen households and construct neighborhood. This is a CD technique. Structure on what neighborhood members have said, much has been achieved in the previous 18 months considering that an initial report was provided to the LRSD.
